Scriptures Alone! Grace Alone! Christ Alone!

Faith is necessary for salvation. But we do not look to our faith to save us; rather, in faith, we look to Christ. Repentance is necessary for salvation. But we do not look to our repentance to save us; rather, in repentance, we turn to Christ. There are graces which God works in us as He saves us. But these graces are never to be the object of our trust, confidence, or hopeful gaze. All the graces God gives us in salvation are to be used to look to, turn to, appreciate, and lay hold of Christ, who is our salvation!

If we have confidence in His grace, we will not try to build a church with fleshy enticements but will be satisfied with preaching and teaching the grace of God, knowing that God will call His sheep by that Gospel. If we have confidence in the grace of God, we will not be quick to judge others but will be patient with our brethren, knowing that God grows His people at Hi...

It has been my experience that focusing on whether or not I am saved always leads to confusion and doubt, but focusing on whether Christ is the Saviour has always led to simplicity of thought and confidence.

And delivered just Lot, vexed with filthy

conversation of the wicked. (II Peter 2:7)

Considering the life of Lot, “A righteous man” seems an inappropriate title to pin on him. Fleshly, money-hungry, compromising, drunk, and incestuous all seem fitting, but not, “righteous”. Yet, “righteous” is exactly the adjective the Holy Spirit inspired Peter to use in order to describe Lot. What are we to make of this? It is obvious from Lot’s story that the righteousness by which a child of God is justified comes from some source other than himself. If Lot is righteous, then his righteousness was not of his own making; it came from somewhere else. This is true of everyone the Scriptures justify, from faithful Abraham to despicable Lot. Jesus Christ...
