Scriptures Alone! Grace Alone! Christ Alone!

Man's entire apostasy and death in sin, so that he cannot save himself, and God's entire supremacy, so that He saves whom He will, are doctrines exceedingly distasteful to human pride. But they are Scriptural. Why was one thief saved and the other lost? "Even so Father for so it seemed good in Thy sight" (Matthew 11:25-27). God was not bound to save the one and He had power enough to have saved the other, and neither could save himself. What made the difference? The Sovereign Grace of God!

If God is sovereign, and His is (Daniel 4:35); if we are begotten of God according to His own will, and we are (James 1:8); if the New Birth is not a result of the will of man, and it most certainly is not (John 1:18); then what is being preached from most pulpits is not from God. Brethren, listen to the message that is being preached and if it contradicts God’s Word, come away from it! Irreverence to the inspired Word of God breeds irreverence to God Himself.

There are really only two religions in the world. One of Cain and the other of Abel. One of Ishmael and the other of Isaac. One of Esau and the other of Jacob. One of law and the other of promise. One of Mount Sinai and the other of Mount Calvary. One condemns, the other finds no fault. One leads to bondage, the other to freedom. One tendeth to death, the other to life. One of weakness, the other of power. One of merit, the other of mercy. One of the weakness of the letter, the other of the power of the Spirit.

Some years ago, an aged minister, who had long and lovingly known Christ, was on his deathbed. Memory had gone. In relation to those he loved best, it was a perfect blank. But someone whispered in his ear, "Brother, do you know Jesus Christ?" With a voice of rapture, he exclaimed,

"Jesus, my Lord! I know his name;

His name is all my trust;

Nor will he put my hope to shame,

Nor let my soul be lost."

You should come waiting for nothing and delaying for no reason. You should come as a hungry sinner to be filled, as a poor sinner to be enriched, as a lost sinner to be found, as a wicked, undeserving sinner to be clothed with His righteousness. If you can come like this, our Lord will receive you.

Just as I am and waiting not,

To rid my soul of one dark blot;

To Thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot,

‘O, Lamb of God, I come!’"

The preaching of Christ Jesus and Him crucified is hated by this religious world. But those who believe, and are saved, love it with a perfect love. It is our only hope, our Salvation. If we compromise on this to please the people of our day, we compromise the Gospel, and make the death of our Lord Jesus Christ of none effect. We have no Salvation. We have no hope. We will stand before a thrice Holy God with a hope only in what we can do to satisfy His justice. We will be obligated to pay our sin debt with the works of the flesh, while the Scriptures declare that, “By the works of the flesh shall no man be justified in His sight.” What hope is there in this? None whatsoever.
