Scriptures Alone! Grace Alone! Christ Alone!

“But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” (Jude 1:20-21)

Someone asked, “How can I avoid these times of depression, indifference and bad attitude toward others?”

First, there is no perfection in the flesh! While we do not approve of our infirmities, failures, evil thoughts, or backslidings, we are, nevertheless, aware of their source: the flesh. And, because of that, we are also aware of the fact that this conflict and warfare will be with us until death. However, the next time you are plagues with coldness of spirit, prolonged bad attitude, and a worldly spirit, check and see if you are not...

Rowland Hill often felt much grieved at the false reports which were circulated of many of his sayings, especially those respecting his publicly mentioning Mrs. Hill. His attentions to her till the close of life were of the most gentlemanly and affectionate kind. The high view he entertained of her may be seen from the following fact: A friend having informed Mr. Hill of the sudden death of a lady, the wife of a minister, remarked, "I am afraid our dear minister loved his wife too well, and the Lord in wisdom has removed her." "What, sir?" replied Mr. Hill, with the deepest feeling, "can a man love a good wife too much? Impossible, sir, unless he can love her better than Christ loves the church"

So many times we try to love God for what He does, and we ought to, but this love is dependent upon our understanding to know when God is doing something for us. There are times when we feel as though we are forsaken of God. We have no visible means to guide us in our love. That is when by faith that we carry on and love Him for what He is. "He is good." This is the basis of our love. If all the graces were to stop now and we had eternity to continue to love Him for what He has already done for us, we can never love God as much as He deserves.

God’s love is not a passion, but both an attribute and an act of his infinite being. God’s love toward his elect is his sovereign, eternal benevolence toward us, his eternal purpose and determination to deliver, bless, and save us, arising from “the good pleasure of his will.” God’s love is his eternal complacency, delight, approval, and acceptance of his chosen in Christ.

Matthew 26:14-15 "Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, and said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver."

Ever since he “betrayed innocent blood”, selling the Lord Jesus Christ to the highest bidder, the name Judas has been a byword, symbolic of the worst form of treachery and deceit known to man. However, though he stands out in history as unique and his crime the most sinister, his sin is still among us. The man who identifies with and or supports in any way preachers, churches, and ministries, which in their preaching, deliver Christ into the hands of His enemies to do with Him as they will, auctioning Him of...

The Gospel, rightly understood and cordially embraced, will inspire the slothful with energy and the fearful with courage. It will make the miser generous, melt the grouch into kindness, tame the raging tiger in the beast, and in a word, expand the narrow, selfish heart and fill it with a spirit of love to God, cheerful unreserved obedience to His will, and benevolence to mankind.

“By this shall all men know that ye are My disciples, if you have love one to another” (John 13:35). This is the new commandment. “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another: as I have loved you, that ye also love one another” (John 13:34). Yes, we are to love God! Yes, we are to love His Truth! But when the Lord gives the evidence that can be seen, that will show us to be His disciples, it is our love to one another. The love that is longsuffering and kind. The love that is not envious, boastful, or conceited. The love that is not rude, self-seeking, easily offended, and keeps no records of wrongs. A love that covers in silence, is not suspicious, hopes the best, and endures all things. A love that is never reduced to ina...

As long as we are in this flesh, we will have misunderstandings among us, unpleasantness, and even injustices (we will feel that our rights have been violated and others have been wrong in what they have said and done). What is to be our attitude? It is to be twofold: forbearing one another and forgiving one another. To forbear is to control our emotions, surrendering our rights for the time being in patient hope that God will reveal His purpose and will. To forgive is actually to put the misunderstanding out of mind and restore a state of love and fellowship. Our Lord forbears, that is, He is longsuffering and patient with us, and He forgives, remembering our sins no more.

While speaking to His disciples about abiding in Him, as the branch abides in the vine, our Lord comes to the clearest proof and sign of this union with Him: "That you love one another as I have loved you" (John 15:12). Love for our Lord and one another is the principal commandment on which all the others rest. If we do abide in Him and His word abides in us, we will love one another.

Before you answer, let me ask you another question. Are you sure you want God to love that way?

Here’s a universal truth regarding the nature of love: The broader you spread it, the thinner it gets.

Let me give you a few examples. A man loves his wife dearly, but he also loves three other women just as sincerely. A mother tenderly loves her son, but she also loves all the neighborhood children just as much. A boy loves his younger brother faithfully, but he’s equally loyal to the bully who beats up on him.

The more universal love becomes, the more superficial it turns out to be. In fact, it’s the distinguishing character of love that demonstrates the reality of it. How can the wife know her husband really loves her unless he keeps his weddi...

It is written, and nothing can blot out the sentence, “The upright love thee.” The intensity of the love of the upright, however, is not so much to be judged by what it appears as by what the upright long for. It is our daily lament that we cannot love enough. Would that our hearts were capable of holding more, and reaching further.
