Many, so called preachers, especially Baptist preachers, make much of the place called hell. To them, salvation is all about heaven and hell. The issue of salvation has nothing to do with a place. The real issue is, how can a sinful man like me stand in the presence of a Holy God and be accepted. It has to do with being made one with God, being able to have fellowship with God. God is light, and I am darkness, God is holy, and I am sin. There cannot be two more different people than God and me. How can I be in union with the Almighty? “Straight is the gate and narrow is the way that leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it” (Matthew 7:24). These are the words of the Lord Jesus Christ. Many attempt to make the way wider than it is in order to accommodate their lifestyle or to avoid persecution. Some attempt to make it more narrow than it is to justify and vindicate themselves in their self-righteous refuge. But there it stands. There is the broad way that leads to destruction with a huge crowd on it. There is the narrow way that leads to life with only a few on it. It is the way of Christ alone. Which way are you on?

The great and important question for you and me always has been and is now. "How can man be just with God?" I do not deny an interest in the mysteries of providence and the matters of prophecy, but the most important matter to me at all times – and it increases as I grow older and approach the day of judgment – is, "How can I stand before God justified and accepted?" Woe to the man who shall be weighed and found wanting!
