Scriptures Alone! Grace Alone! Christ Alone!

By: Lantana Grace Church | January 25, 2018

Any time a preacher presents the grace of God as an offer on God’s part to anybody who is willing to receive it; he has not preached grace as the Bible does. The Bible does not say, “but God, who is rich in mercy for His great love wherewith He loved us, even when we were dead in sins has offered us His grace.” It says that God “quickened us together with Christ, by grace are you saved.” Grace is not offered; grace is given! And when grace is given, it always saves and is always received! We do not have a choice as to whether or not we will accept God’s offer of grace. Grace saves! Grace is not something we use to aid in our salvation, Grace saves us!

Remember, sinner, it is not YOUR HOLD of Christ that saves you; it is Christ! It is not YOUR JOY that saves you; it is Christ! It is not your profession of faith nor YOUR FAITH in Christ that saves; it is Christ's blood and merit! Therefore, look not to your hope, but to Christ, the source of your hope. Look not to your faith, but to Christ, the author and finisher of your faith. And if you can do that, no power can throw you down.

II Corinthians 4:7: "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God and not of us"

Lest we be exalted above measure, lest we forget the pit from which we have been lifted, lest we forget Who maketh us to differ, lest we forget that in our flesh dwelleth no good thing, and lest we forget that without Him we can do nothing, we have this treasure of glory, this gift of life, this knowledge of the glory of God in earthen vessels! This treasure is not in vessels of fine wood to be admired. This treasure is in vessels of clay, worthless crumbling dirt! "Dust thou art, and to dust thou shalt return." Why? That the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us! That your faith ...

Woe Is Unto Me if I Preach Not The Gospel

Any sermon that does not have Christ in the beginning, the middle, and the end is a mistake in conception and a crime in execution. And I heartily say, “Amen!” The apostle Paul never said, "Woe is unto me if I preach not," but "woe is unto me if I preach not the Gospel." And he told the Corinthians, "I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ and Him crucified." Any man who stands before men and women in the name of God and does not plainly, clearly and consistently preach the Gospel of God's glory and grace in Christ Jesus is the worst sort of a criminal! He is a deceiver and murderer of the souls of men and women!

What is the difference between the grace of God and the mercy of God? Someone has defined it this way. Grace, is God giving to us what we do not deserve; righteousness, peace and pardon (Romans 3:24; 6:23). Mercy, is God not giving to us what we do deserve; wrath, death and eternal punishment (Titus 3:5). Thank God for His eternal, sovereign grace and mercy; revealed and experienced in the heart of the sinner in Christ Jesus the Lord (II Corinthians 4:6)!

We need to be continually reminded that our life is but a vapor, which appeareth for a little while and then vanisheth away. If not we will walk carelessly. We will let worldliness eat away at us like a cancer. This is not our rest, so we should take no comfort in it. Nothing of this world is worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. We must trim our lamps for the time when the Bridegroom comes. We are told to stand always ready, waiting for the appearing of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, or for the call that it is time for the body to return to the earth.

George Whitfield used to say when he went to bed at night, "I have not left even a pair of gloves out of their place: if I die tonight, all my ...

Man's entire apostasy and death in sin, so that he cannot save himself, and God's entire supremacy, so that He saves whom He will, are doctrines exceedingly distasteful to human pride. But they are Scriptural. Why was one thief saved and the other lost? "Even so Father for so it seemed good in Thy sight" (Matthew 11:25-27). God was not bound to save the one and He had power enough to have saved the other, and neither could save himself. What made the difference? The Sovereign Grace of God!

Several years ago I applied for a home improvement loan at a local bank. I did not deal with the president of the bank or an officer of the bank but with one of the employees. This particular employee was quite rude and unkind to me causing me to cancel my account at that bank and move to another. The only contact I had with the bank was with this very poor representative but it was enough to discourage me from going there again.

You and I represent our Lord, the gospel of the Lord Jesus, and the church of the first-born. The only contact some people have with the church and kingdom of God is through us. What kind of impression do we leave on them? What idea of Christianity do we convey to them?

I wonder if they do not sometimes walk away off...

No one has ever done anything to or against me that can even begin to compare with what I have done to and against my God, both before he saved me and since. If God in heaven has forgiven me, it should be easy for me to forgive you of anything. Spirit of God, give me such grace.

Evil is found in the best deeds and duties. As a matter of fact, everything is full of sin. All you and I ever do including prayer, preaching, and everything else, is full of sin from the top to the bottom. The best thing we ever did is worthy of hell’s heat. Quit talking about how good we are and start pleading to God for mercy. Your merit and mine put together wouldn’t fill up a thimble and would do nothing more than rattle like a peanut in a boxcar.

I see no reason to contradict and fuss with that professing Christian who insists that Christ has done no more for him than he did for Judas. Maybe the poor man is right. How can you contradict him if he is telling you the truth? I just take him at his word and leave it at that. But don’t imagine that Peter believed Christ did no more for him than he did for Judas. Both men had horrible falls into sin. One betrayed Christ and the other denied him. Christ left Judas to die in his sin and go to his own place – to hell. Christ made intercession for Peter and delivered him from what otherwise would have been a damnable fall. Ask Peter if Christ did more for him than he did for Judas. Ask any believer who has truly been taught of God and he will...

“But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” (Jude 1:20-21)

Someone asked, “How can I avoid these times of depression, indifference and bad attitude toward others?”

First, there is no perfection in the flesh! While we do not approve of our infirmities, failures, evil thoughts, or backslidings, we are, nevertheless, aware of their source: the flesh. And, because of that, we are also aware of the fact that this conflict and warfare will be with us until death. However, the next time you are plagues with coldness of spirit, prolonged bad attitude, and a worldly spirit, check and see if you are not...

As we watch our nation in a religious and moral downgrade, which fills our hearts with sorrow, let us ever call to mind the words of the great apostle Paul, “Who maketh thee to differ,” and be very, very thankful to God that we are not a part of the church’s apostasy and this nation’s reprobation; that we have been snatched out of darkness and death and translated into the kingdom of light, the kingdom of God’s dear Son (Colossians 1:13). In our sorrow, let us be thankful, very thankful!

Look at the words John Newton has left us: “While we lament the growth and pernicious effects of infidelity, and see how wicked men wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived; what gratitude should fill our hearts to Him, who has called us out of the ...

  1. Grace is always sovereign. “Therefore, hath He mercy on whom He will have mercy, and whom He will He hardeneth” (Romans 9:18).
  2. Grace is always free. “Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (Romans 3:24).
  3. Grace is always saving. “By grace are ye saved” (Ephesians 2:8).

God’s grace is not an offer up for man’s acceptance or rejection. His grace sovereignly, freely saves! We cannot believe grace without believing these three things regarding grace.

A dear friend and I were talking about how blessed the gospel of Christ's grace was. I can't remember all the details we talked about. I suppose we talked about electing love and redeeming grace and how the Lord in tender mercy called us out of darkness with a call we could not resist, and has kept us till that very day, and refused to let us go. When saints get to talking about spiritual things they often talk about such subjects as these. When our discussion was almost over, my dear friend put the icing on the cake, as it were. "And one of the best things about this gospel," he said, "I can't mess it up!".

Jesus has finished the work, it is already done, so, "I can't mess it up". My sins have already been puni...

"Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith." (Hebrews 10:22)

Assurance of salvation and a saving interest in our Lord Jesus is not a feeling cultivated by thinking good thoughts and doing good deeds. Paul calls it "full assurance of faith." It has to do with faith, with believing God!

Assurance is born of confidence in the Father as our covenant God; "Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him."

Assurance is born of confidence in the Son as our just God and Saviour; "By His stripes we are healed."

Assurance is born of confidence in His promises; "Abraham was fully persuaded that what God had promised, He was able also to perform."

So your assurance of redemption is not enh...

Do yourself a favor… Do your soul to favor.. Avail yourself to every opportunity of hearing the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. God speaks to man through his word, he spoke to me; who knows, he may speak to you.

"Lord, what will you have me to do?" (Acts 9:6). This is Paul's question on the road where he met the sovereign Christ. It was not, what do I think is best for me? Or what will afford me the most pleasure and comfort? Or even what do other people do? But "Lord, what will YOU have me to do?"

In every case enable me, by Thy grace, to do what is pleasing in Thy sight and that which will bring glory to Thy name. Where we get in trouble is putting our wills and ways before His! It is not I but Christ, His gospel, His church, His kingdom, His glory, which must be considered. When this is settled "I" will fall in the right place and though the way may not be easy; in the end it will be pleasant. "In all thy ways a...

The Gospel of God's grace in Christ Jesus is not a thing to be proved, but a truth to be believed. It is not submitted to our reasoning powers as a subject for critical examination. The Gospel is a message from God, addressed to the conscience, feelings, and affections. For this reason men fond of argument and proving everything by strictly logical deduction generally make very poor preachers. In the Scriptures, God does not argue. He proclaims!

Many of you have sons and daughters that you often mention in your prayers, but never with hope. You have often thought that God has said of your son, “Ephraim is given to idols; let him alone;” the child of your affection has become an adder stinging your heart! Oh, then weep, I beseech you. Parents, do not leave off weeping for your children; do not become hardened towards them, sinners though they be; it may be that God may yet bring them to himself. It was but last church meeting that we received into our communion a young friend who was educated and brought up by a pious minister in Colchester. She had been there many years, and when she came away to London the minister said to her, “Now, my girl, I have prayed for you hundreds of time...
