Numbers 23:21: “He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel”

Every son of Adam is nothing but sin. If we are honest, all we see in ourselves is sin. Then why does God, who sees everything exactly as it is, say that He doesn’t see iniquity in His people? Because HE TOOK THE SIN OF HIS PEOPLE AWAY IN CHRIST. Christ was made sin for His people in such reality that there is no sin left in them – Christ took it all away. The sacrifice of Christ for the sin of His people put their sin away so completely, in such current reality, that there is no iniquity left in them. The Father does not behold iniquity in His people because there is no sin to see – Christ has taken it all away and removed it by the blood of H...

Here is a prayer that God never says no to... “Have mercy upon me.” Whenever someone asks for mercy, they are acknowledging their guilt before God, they are acknowledging His sovereign right to give it or withhold it as He sees fit, and they are pleading their need of mercy. Everybody who truly pleads for mercy will have it. If you say, “I asked the Lord for mercy and He did not give it to me,” then you really never asked for mercy. You may have used the word “mercy”, but that is not what you meant. Because if you meant what the Bible means by mercy, you would have it! The Lord did say, “Him that cometh to Me, I will in no wise cast out.” If you are not received in mercy by Him, it is because you never came to Him for mercy in the first pla...

Romans 5:14 "Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come."

Infants, dying in infancy, the Spirit of God tells us have not sinned “after the similitude of Adam’s transgression.” They, like all the human race, sinned in our father Adam. But God the Holy Ghost tells us plainly – “The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father” (Ezekiel 18:20). It is obvious then that dying infants, having committed no offence of their own, are chosen, redeemed, and born again by the grace of God, and must be saved.

These, is equally obvious, will constitute the great bulk of Christ’s kingd...

Here I stand, I can do no other! Let others wave, compromise, or cover; but I preach what Spurgeon, Luther, Calvin, Augustine, Paul, the apostles, and the prophets preached; "Salvation is of the Lord."

Christ died in the stead of His people; and, as God is just, He will not and cannot punish one soul of Adam’s race for whom Christ died. There is not one sin in the book of God against any believer. Our sins were laid on Him, the law is honored, the justice of God satisfied; and, inasmuch as sin condemned Him, sin cannot condemn us!

This is my hope, comfort, and my security; that all my sins, transgressions, and iniquities were atoned for before they were even committed! This, indeed, is good news for the...

To receive Christ as our Lord is to bow to His will. To walk with Christ is to walk with Him “who worketh all things after the counsel of HIS OWN WILL.” To plan my day is to say, “If the Lord will, we shall do this.” To pray is to “ask anything according to HIS WILL.”

If you persist in working with the hope of being saved by your doing, let me warn you one more time that you are running after a scheme which God has solemnly declared He will never accept. “By the deeds of the law shall no flesh be justified in His sight.”

Hebrews 6:19 "Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil."

On a recent trip to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands to visit our friends, Daniel (Moose) and Sandy Parks, a coastguard ship was anchored off shore right in front of where my wife Teresa and I were staying. As we observed the ship several times during the day, the front of the ship would be pointing in different directions depending on how the wind was blowing. Yet the ship was never moved from its anchored position. Child of God, it is the same with our souls that are anchored to Christ. What great hope we have of never being moved from faith in our Savior. The Holy Spirit (the wind and breath of God) mov...

Three days before he was killed at Airsmoss because of the gospel he preached, Pastor Richard Cameron preached from Psalm 46 and made this statement: "Be still and know that I am God. This text forbids us to quarrel or murmur against God. All of us need to be afraid of this. Beware of it; for it is a dreadful thing to find fault with God's dealings with us or to say unto Him, 'What doest Thou?' It is a good account of Aaron that when God destroyed his sons, AARON HELD HIS PEACE. Let us then (while we bear the yoke) sit still and keep silence and put our mouth in the dust. God gives no account of His matters to anyone. There are so many things we cannot see through nor understand; but the Lord is our refuge and strength, a very present ...

There are many things I do not understand. However, I do understand that God’s ways are higher than my ways, and his thoughts are higher than my thoughts (Isaiah 55:9). With the mind I have now I cannot think on such a high level. But I understand that God is infinite in wisdom and knowledge. Almighty God can do no wrong for He is light and in Him is no darkness at all. I know that He does all things for His glory and the good of His children. I know how God can be a just God and a Savior through the blood and righteousness of Jesus Christ. I know that someday all God’s children shall have the mind of Christ perfectly (I Corinthians 2:16) and then shall they understand clearly.

“Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not no...

Genesis 27:27 “And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed.”

There is, without a doubt, no clearer picture or type of the blessing of God Almighty to an unworthy rebel than the blessing of Jacob by his father Isaac. Jacob had exhibited the true nature of a wretched sinner. In Jacob’s mind, the only way he could get his father’s blessing was to impersonate his brother Esau. Lying with every breath, Jacob attempted to convince his father that he was someone else. Not until Isaac smelled the coat of Esau did he bestow the blessing. The smell of his first born satisfied the aging Isaac.

And just as the smell of...

Even though trouble is laid upon you, it is not as heavy as it could be nor as severe as they would be if the Lord was pleased to deal with you in justice rather than mercy. Therefore, "Wait upon the Lord for they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint" (Isaiah 40:31).

Matthew 26:42 "O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done."

Christ asked this three times. God did not remove the cup. But God sent an angel from heaven which strengthened him. So now when we are like Paul, praying three times for God to remove our thorn in the flesh, Christ, having fully experienced both the weakness of our flesh and the sufficiency of God’s grace, speaks into our hearts, “My grace is sufficient for thee, for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”

Faith is necessary for salvation. But, we do not look to our faith to save us; rather, in faith, we look to Christ. Repentance is necessary for salvation. But we do not look to our repentance to save us; rather, in repentance, we turn to Christ. There are graces, which God works in us as He saves us. But these graces are never to be the object of our trust, confidence or hopeful gaze. All the graces God gives us in salvation are to be used to look to, turn to, appreciate, and lay hold of Christ who is our salvation.

James 5:11 "Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy."

James is saying, We look back at the courage, faith and patience of these believers and call them blessed! They are happy now; the glory of God rests upon them. They felt honored to be counted worthy to suffer for Christ’s sake. Now they are glorified in Him.

“You have heard (especially) of the patience of Job" in the book that bears his name. Though he was severely tried in the loss of all temporal comforts, possessions and friends, he did not murmur against God or charge Him foolishly (Job 1:21-22). You have also seen the Lord’s purpose in all this ...

Spurgeon once said "I don't know which renders the greater service - the man who preaches or the man who prays, but I know this, we can do better without the voice than without the heart of prayer!"

Blessed and happy is that assembly of redeemed people, brought together and baptized into one body by His Spirit, whose love for the Lord Jesus and for one another enables them to sing with one voice, pray with one heart, walk in one direction, and worship with one Spirit! Where each member realizes the importance of his presence, his prayers, his support, and his co-operation. Where Christ is Lord and all others are servants! Where the will of Christ is preeminent and all other wills and desires are in subjection! Where there are no ...

This life is not the end. We all will spend eternity somewhere glorifying God: either glorifying his grace for saving us or glorifying his justice for justly condemning us. Some of you are already making plans for where you will spend your spring and summer break next year. Others have spent their lives preparing for how and where they will spend our retirement years. “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away” (James 4:14). Yet, we all know we shalt die. But who is making plans for where they will spend eternity?

Israel kept wanting to go back to Egypt every time trouble came their way. Their greatest problem was unbelief. God went before them in a cloud to guide them, and behind them as a wall of fire to protect them, they had nothing to fear. I may not know what is coming up behind me or what is before me. However, I do know that God is behind and before. So what is a believer to do? Trust God who is already there.

Have you heard the story of the Irishman who was converted to Christ and whose priest told him that he had better not read the Bible because he was unlearned? The priest said, “I will get the milk of the Word and bring it to you.” To which the Irishman replied, “I will be much obliged to you, sir, if you will bring me the milk of the Word; but, I intend to keep a cow myself. That way I will be sure to get the milk PURE.”

That is what I want you to do, keep a cow yourself; carry a Bible with you and see whether the milk you are receiving from the pulpit is PURE! You can trust your body to physicians and your finances to brokers and not suffer too great a loss if they are wrong but, to trust your eternal soul to a preacher and find out in the ...

Many, so called preachers, especially Baptist preachers, make much of the place called hell. To them, salvation is all about heaven and hell. The issue of salvation has nothing to do with a place. The real issue is, how can a sinful man like me stand in the presence of a Holy God and be accepted. It has to do with being made one with God, being able to have fellowship with God. God is light, and I am darkness, God is holy, and I am sin. There cannot be two more different people than God and me. How can I be in union with the Almighty? The answer is found in the gospel of Christ and him crucified. In Jesus Christ I am complete, Colossians 2:10. I have everything God requires me to have, and to be, in Jesus Christ. I Corinthians 1:30. Al...

Physical sickness is an instrument by which God makes his saints more healthy. By weakness he makes us strong. By need he teaches us to pray. By great sorrow he opens the door for great comfort.
